Coronal Polish Objective:
Students must remove extrinsic stains and plaque from the supragingival surfaces of the teeth without causing trauma to the teeth or gingival tissues
Steps to Coronal Polish Procedure:
1. Seat, bib and clip patient
2. Check health history-allergies, etc
3. Dry teeth with air/water syringe or 2x2 gauze
4. Disclose teeth with cotton swab
5 Rinse and aspirate
6. Begin polishing with rubber cup and prophy paste utilizing prophy angle
7. Start on buccal surface of #1 and continue to tooth #16 Start on lingual of tooth #16 and continue to tooth #1. Start on buccal
surface of #32 and work around to tooth #17. Begin lingual surface of tooth #17 back to tooth #32 Change to bristle brush on
prophy angle and polish occulsal surfaces and difficult stains using pumice.
8. Floss interproximal surfaces with waxed floss to remove remaining plaque
9. Re-disclose patient's teeth, rinse and aspirate
10. Check for missed area, re-polish if necessary
11. Rinse, aspirate, offer mouthwash
12. Review homecare instructions with patient
